Uber gives Londoners the opportunity to reserve EVs: From today and for the first time in the UK, Londoners who use the Uber app can book a fully electric vehicle (EV).
The ride-sharing app Business reported that a trip using the ‘Uber Green’ option will stay the same price as an UberX. Drivers in EVs will now be paid more for every trip which will urge them to switch to an EV.
Trips need to originate inside London’s Zone 1 area however destinations are unrestricted.
The opportunity is created to persuade riders to take action on climate change by choosing an EV in place of a petrol or diesel vehicle.
Uber has pledged to becoming a completely electric mobility platform in London by 2025 & all over the UK by 2030.
Uber’s Regional General Manager for Northern and Eastern, Jamie Heywood, stated: “With cities beginning to open up once again, we have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to drive a green recovery by ensuring that every car on the Uber app in London is fully electric.
“We continue to partner with drivers to help them make the switch to electric and today we are excited to start offering riders the option to select an electric vehicle at no extra cost, allowing everyone using Uber to play their part in cleaning up urban transport.”
