Google Maps to show more Eco-Friendly and tidier routes: Soon you will be able to choose routes that include fewer carbon dioxide emissions based on traffic congestion and slopes while using the Google Maps App for journeys.

The app will present the route that has the lowest carbon footprint if comparable options take the same time the tech giant said.

The app will allow the user to compare the carbon impact between routes and choose which route to take, this will happen in cases where the eco-friendly route could significantly increase the time of the jouney.

The offering will also add an air quality layer to show how healthy the air is in the chosen area, this will use data from weather and environmental agencies.

In the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, France and Spain low emission zone alerts will be launched this June.

The app will also show which routes will require lower fuel consumption based on criteria such as road incline and traffic jams, Analysing insights from the US Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Lab.

“This is all part of the commitment we made last September to help one billion people who use our products take action to reduce their environmental footprint.” Google said, in a statement.
