Pensioners to receive £140 off their energy bills: Nearly one million low-income pensioners are appointed to receive £140 off their electricity bills this winter as part of the Warm Home Discount scheme started by the government.

The money is a one-off discount on the September and March electricity bill.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) says most pensioners, between now and January, will receive their discounts.

People who may be classed as vulnerable & who are currently on certain state benefits are eligible for the initiative.

A further eligible 220,000 pensioners who meet the criteria are being encouraged to claim the discount via a dedicated helpline.

DWP says consumers can still be entitled for the discount if they utilise a prepayment meter.
