More than 550,000 customers switched electricity suppliers in September, up by 46% on the same month last year.
That’s according to the latest data from Energy UK, which shows total switches so far this year now exceed more than four million customers.
Energy regulator Ofgem said consumer engagement in the energy market has increased from 37% in 2015 to 41% this year, with a third of switchers changing supplier for the first time in the past 12 months.
Lawrence Slade, Chief Executive of Energy UK, added: “The energy market is rapidly transforming as competition continues to flourish and the numbers of consumers engaging in the energy market continues to grow.
“Over half a million consumers switching suppliers in the space of a month shows the scale of the growing momentum.”
