Smarter cities which make better use of energy are among the aims of a project seeking to change the way East Anglia is powered.
Pixie Energy launched its East Anglian Energy Market Innovation Project (EMIP), which aims to identify new local models for the energy industry, at an event at Norwich Cathedral yesterday.
The company was created by Nigel Cornwall, founder of Norwich-based energy consultancy Cornwall Insight, who said his aim was to “create a bit of mischief” in the energy sector.
He said he wanted to explore smarter ways of consuming energy including aggregating power to sell, looking at how storage can help supply and involving local councils in the process.
Among EMIP’s goals are building a local energy map with a focus on local authorities as catalysts for change; finding opportunities for micro-markets; examining new models of energy use and making a business case for them.
