A business alliance has signed a new hydropower deal as part of its new target to build 1GW of green power generation in the next three years.
SIMEC Energy, which is part of the GFG Alliance, is to acquire clean power developer and operator Green Highland Renewables (GHR) from Ancala Partners.
The acquisition of GHR, which includes 18 hydroelectric plants in the Scottish Highlands and a team of 17 engineers, operators and designers, is expected to complete by the end of February 2018.
As part of its plans to build 1GW of clean capacity in the UK, SIMEC also plans to develop a further eight hydropower plants in the Highlands, with the planning process due to start in 2018.
Minister for Climate Change and Industry, Claire Perry said: “Through our modern Industrial
Strategy, the government has set out a clear plan for reducing carbon emissions while
driving economic growth.
“I am pleased that the GFG Alliance are developing their renewable power assets and building clean growth in their organisation.”
