A Scottish design firm expects to save up to £10,000 a year by installing a biomass boiler.
Fitted bathroom, kitchen and bedroom specialist DM Design has invested £250,000 in the sustainable energy equipment at its head office in Cumbernauld.
It says the 150kW boiler, which is fed with waste wood from old fittings, will save the equivalent of 50 large skip loads of landfill each year and heat the entire factory.
The material is taken from customers homes when new units are installed – it was previously thrown away rather than being used as a feedstock.
The unit also assists in removing dust, meaning a cleaner and healthier working environment for the 30-strong factory team.
A new £2.2 million project aims to make bioenergy cheaper.
